JHernando to distribute Packsize automated packaging systems in Spain
JHernando has entered into a partnership with Packsize to distribute its automated packaging systems in Spain. The agreement expands JHernando’s portfolio with technology designed to produce custom-sized boxes on demand, helping businesses reduce packaging costs, material consumption and shipping volume.
Packsize systems create packaging tailored to the dimensions of each order. By reducing empty space inside the box, companies can use less corrugated cardboard and less void fill while producing more compact parcels for transport.
On-demand box production also reduces the need to keep a large inventory of pre-made boxes in multiple sizes, freeing up valuable warehouse space and giving operations greater flexibility when order profiles change.
Lower material use and more efficient transport
Its right-sized packaging solutions can deliver savings of up to 30% in corrugated cardboard costs and reduce void fill by up to 80%, depending on the solution and application. Smaller boxes also make better use of available transport capacity. Based on figures supplied by Packsize, reducing box size can result in up to 42% fewer trucks being required per year.
Actual savings will depend on factors such as order profiles, product dimensions, packaging requirements and transport utilisation, but the principle is straightforward: shipping less empty space can reduce both packaging consumption and the volume that needs to be transported.
Automated packaging for different levels of operation
Packsize offers solutions for different levels of packaging automation.
Its range extends from compact systems that manufacture boxes on demand for manual forming and packing, through to fully automated packaging lines capable of measuring an order, producing the right-sized box, closing it and preparing the parcel for dispatch. This makes the technology suitable for ecommerce and distribution operations as well as manufacturers handling products with widely varying dimensions.
JHernando brings its experience in intralogistics automation to the partnership, assessing how Packsize technology can be incorporated into each customer’s existing fulfilment and warehouse processes. Our team can advise on the most suitable system and evaluate how right-sized packaging can be integrated into the wider operation.
Right-sized packaging and the PPWR
Right-sized packaging can also help companies prepare for the requirements introduced by the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, known as the PPWR. The regulation applies generally from 12 August 2026, although individual requirements come into force according to their own specific timelines. One of its objectives is to reduce unnecessary packaging and limit avoidable empty space.
For businesses preparing and shipping large numbers of orders, this makes box size increasingly relevant. A small product shipped in an unnecessarily large box requires more material, takes up more transport capacity and often needs additional void fill. Producing packaging around the actual dimensions of an order provides a practical way to reduce that excess while maintaining the level of protection required by the product.
With Packsize now joining its portfolio, JHernando can offer customers a new way to automate this stage of the fulfilment process and connect packaging more closely with the rest of their intralogistics operation.
